The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) confirms that Canadian pipelines, oil storage, shipment facilities, and power transmission towers are at an increased risk for cyber and homemade bomb attacks.

An official document, obtained by Reuters, describes how the Canadian opposition to domestic pipelines has grown dramatically, while hackers associated foreign state-owned firms are also reportedly seeking confidential information regarding Canadian investments, clients, and takeovers.

Just last week, a pipeline being constructed in Alberta was damaged by vandals using on-site equipment.

Although energy companies already make use of security precautions such as surveillance cameras, helicopters, remote sensors and drones, security experts and industry officials have said that it’s impossible to lower the threat to zero.
