Pride Toronto members have reportedly agreed to all of the Black Lives Matter demands set out during last year’s staged sit-in, including the banning of police marches and floats during Toronto’s annual Pride parade.

However, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service says: “We don’t know what happened. People can’t seem to agree on whether police were excluded or whether it has something to do with uniforms and guns.”

The alleged decision to ban police participation in the parade has been controversial, with some arguing that the exclusion goes directly against the principles of the Pride movement.

Toronto mayor John Tory has issued a statement stating that he is “hopeful” that the issue can be resolved in order for the police and the LGBTQ community to “continue build[ing] those vitally important bridges”.
